Frequently asked questions
What does Alpha-Gal Wise do?
You choose your triggers, like red meat, dairy, gelatin, or glycerin, then scan a product barcode. Alpha-Gal Wise™ shows ingredients that might be a problem for you and explains why.
Does a product with no flags mean I can use it?
No. A product with no flagged ingredients only means the app did not find a match in the data it has. Data can be incomplete or out of date, and manufacturers change formulas. Always check the actual label, and ask your allergist if you are unsure.
What kinds of products can I scan?
Food, medicine, and personal care and household products such as shampoo, lotion, and laundry detergent. Coverage depends on what is in the product databases we use.
Where does the product data come from?
From Open Food Facts and its Open Beauty Facts and Open Products Facts projects, which are free, community-built databases, and from openFDA for some drug label data. Alpha-Gal Wise™ is not affiliated with or endorsed by Open Food Facts, and openFDA does not endorse this app. See Data sources and credits.
A product is missing or the ingredients look wrong. What should I do?
Rely on the physical label. You can also email support@alphagalwise.com with the barcode, the product name, and the ingredient list (a photo of the label works). Please keep faces and personal details out of the photo; we use it only to check the product. Or add or fix the product yourself on Open Food Facts (food), Open Beauty Facts (personal care), or Open Products Facts (household products). These are independent projects with their own terms.
Is the app free?
Yes. It’s free and has no ads.
Do I need an account?
No. Your triggers and settings are kept on your device.
How do I get help or report a problem?
Email support@alphagalwise.com. Please include your phone model, operating system version (iOS or Android), and app version.

Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, and Open Products Facts are built by volunteers who add products and photos, and some ingredient text is read from those photos by automated tools, including AI. Manufacturers aren’t required to submit their products, so many are missing and entries can be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. openFDA drug label data comes from labeling that manufacturers submit to the FDA, and it can also be incomplete or out of date. Alpha-Gal Wise™ doesn’t verify this data. Always check the actual product label. Sources added later will be credited here.
