Privacy Policy
Applies to: the Alpha-Gal Wise™ app and alphagalwise.com, operated by WILLIAMS TECHNOLOGIES LLC.
Version: Rev E. Effective date: October 19, 2026.
The short version.
- You don't need an account. Your triggers, settings, scans, and label photos stay on your device unless you choose to Share a photo.
- By default, nothing we receive identifies you.
- When the app opens, it checks our server for settings. Our hosting provider logs your IP address for security and delivery and keeps it for up to 7 days. Nothing else is sent unless you choose to send it: anonymous ingredient reports (off unless you turn them on) and label photos you Share one at a time.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Who we are
Alpha-Gal Wise™ is published by WILLIAMS TECHNOLOGIES LLC, an Oklahoma limited liability company (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what information the app and this website handle, and your choices. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy adds details for Washington, Nevada, and Connecticut residents.
Information we collect
By default, nothing that identifies you. The app has no account and never asks for your name, email, or phone number.
Kept only on your device (we don't receive it): your triggers and settings, recent scans, cached product data, your consent choices, and label photos you save.
Received by us every time the app opens: the app checks our server for settings. Our hosting provider logs your IP address for security and delivery and keeps it for up to 7 days. Nothing else is sent.
Received by us only if you choose:
- Anonymous ingredient reports, if you turn them on. See Anonymous ingredient reports.
- Label photos you Share, one photo at a time. See Photo of ingredients.
- Emails you send us: your email address, your message, and anything you attach. Please don't include health details you'd rather not share.
Received by other companies when you use the app: product lookups, purchases, and website visits involve third-party services. See Third-party services.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect your name, account details, contacts, precise location, device or advertising identifiers, your triggers or allergens, symptoms, or medical records. We don't use cookies or analytics on this website, and we don't add analytics or crash-reporting tools that identify you in the app.
How we use information
- To run app features you ask for, like looking up a barcode.
- To improve ingredient matching, using anonymous reports.
- To review label photos you Share and, if they pass review, add them to Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts (cosmetics and personal care products), or Open Products Facts (household products).
- To answer your emails.
- To keep our systems secure and to comply with the law.
We don't use your information for profiling, and we don't use reports or photos for advertising.
No advertising
The app does not show ads. It contains no advertising software, and we don't share any information with advertisers or ad networks.
Donations and in-app purchases
Donations are optional tips handled by the App Store or Google Play. The store processes your payment. We don't receive your name, Apple ID, Google account, or payment card. We receive only a confirmation that a purchase happened, so the app can thank you.
Anonymous ingredient reports (opt-in)
The app can send us anonymous reports about ingredients it could not recognize, so we can improve matching for everyone. This feature is off unless you turn it on, either when the app asks or in Settings → Help improve ingredient matching. You can turn it off at any time. Turning it off does not affect any app feature.
A report contains: the product barcode (if available); the product's public name and brand (from Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, or Open Products Facts); its public ingredient text; the ingredient words the app did not recognize; where the label came from (Open Food Facts or one of its sister projects, openFDA, or text read from your photo); the app version; your platform (iOS, Android, or web); and the date (UTC, without time of day). The app sends at most one report per product from your installation.
A report never contains: your name, email, or account; device, advertising, or installation identifiers; your triggers, allergens, or other settings; your location; cookies; or your photos. We don't store your IP address with reports.
Text read from photos. If a label was read from a photo, we send only the extracted ingredient text, after automatically removing things that look like phone numbers, email addresses, web links, or long numbers. Reports never include the photo itself.
How we use reports: only to find and add unrecognized ingredients and improve matching. We may publish aggregated ingredient information (for example, a list of newly recognized ingredient names) that contains no individual reports. We don't send reports to Open Food Facts or its sister projects automatically.
De-identification commitment. Reports are collected in de-identified form. We will keep them that way and will not try to re-identify any person or device from them. Any service provider handling them must make the same commitment.
Region. This option is hidden, and no reports are sent, when your device region is set to the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland.
Photo of ingredients
What's saved, and where. When you use Photo of ingredients and choose Accept, the app saves the label photo, the text read from it, the barcode (if any), and the date on your device only (or in your browser's storage on the web). Text recognition runs on your device. We don't receive these records. If you choose Not now, the photo is used once to read the label and is then discarded.
Sharing is per photo. A photo leaves your device only if you tap Share on that photo. Photos taken in the web version, and photos imported from your photo library, can only be saved, not shared.
If you tap Share, we receive:
- a copy of that photo, cropped and re-saved with all location and camera data removed;
- the text read from it, automatically scrubbed of things like phone numbers, email addresses, and long numbers;
- the barcode;
- the date (no time of day);
- the app version and platform;
- the consent version you accepted;
- a random code that lets your device withdraw the photo.
We do not receive or attach your name, email, account, device or advertising identifiers, location, your triggers or settings, or other photos.
Why. To review the photo and, if it's usable, add it and its ingredient data to Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts (cosmetics and personal care products), or Open Products Facts (household products). This improves product data for everyone, including ingredient matching in this app. We don't use shared photos for advertising, profiling, or tracking. We don't sell them, and we don't share them with anyone except Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, or Open Products Facts.
Review and publication. A person (the publisher) reviews every shared photo before anything is published. Photos showing people or personal information are deleted, not published. Photos that pass review are submitted to Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, or Open Products Facts from a separate Alpha-Gal Wise app account (not a personal account) and become public under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, version 3.0 or any later version adopted by that project (photos), and ODbL/DbCL (data). Once published, they cannot be withdrawn or deleted by us. All three are run by the Open Food Facts association, an independent nonprofit in France with its own terms and privacy policy.
Your choices.
- Delete any saved photo, or all of them, in Settings → Label photos.
- Withdraw any shared photo that is not yet published. We delete it from our servers.
- Turn off “Ask to share.”
Because we don't know who you are, we can find shared photos only through the code stored on your device. If you delete the app first, contact support@alphagalwise.com with the date and product and we'll try to find and delete them.
Health information. Using an alpha-gal app can suggest a health condition. To limit this, we collect shared photos only with your separate consent (the Share button), keep them de-identified, and do not try to re-identify anyone. See our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
Children. Please don't photograph children, or anyone else.
Retention and region rules for photos are in Data retention and Region handling.
Third-party services and data sources
- Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), a crowdsourced, nonprofit product database, and its sister projects Open Beauty Facts and Open Products Facts (household products). When you scan, the app looks up the barcode directly with Open Food Facts, which receives the barcode and your IP address like any website request and may return a record from one of its sister projects. Product data is available under the Open Database License (ODbL), with individual contents under the Database Contents License (DbCL); product images under CC BY-SA 3.0. See the Open Food Facts privacy policy.
- openFDA (open.fda.gov), a public U.S. Food and Drug Administration data service, used for some drug labels. It receives the lookup and your IP address. openFDA does not endorse this app, and this app is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FDA.
- Supabase (with its network provider, Cloudflare) hosts our database and storage in the United States. It answers the app's settings check each time the app opens, receives ingredient reports and shared photos on our behalf, and logs your IP address for security and delivery (kept up to 7 days).
- Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play) distribute the app and process purchases under their own privacy policies (Apple, Google).
- GitHub Pages hosts this website. Like any web host, it logs visitors' IP addresses for security. This website uses no cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts.
- ImprovMX (email forwarding) and Google Gmail (email hosting) handle messages sent to support@alphagalwise.com.
About the data. Data comes from Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, and Open Products Facts, crowdsourced databases, and may be incomplete or inaccurate. Always check the label.
Sharing and sale of information
We do not sell your personal information or consumer health data, and we don't share it for targeted advertising. We share information only:
- with service providers that store or process it for us (Supabase, Cloudflare, ImprovMX, and Google), under contracts that limit their use of it;
- with Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, or Open Products Facts, only for photos you Share that pass review;
- as aggregated ingredient information that identifies no one;
- when the law requires it, or to protect the rights or security of our users, us, or others;
- as part of a merger, sale, or transfer of the business, where the new owner must follow this policy.
Data retention
- Data on your device (triggers, settings, scans, saved photos): kept until you delete it or remove the app.
- Anonymous ingredient reports: deleted or reduced to aggregate ingredient statistics within 90 days.
- Shared photos on our servers: kept only until a person reviews them, then deleted immediately, whether they are published or rejected. Any shared photo not reviewed within 30 days of upload is deleted automatically.
- Record of published photos: for published photos, we keep only the Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, or Open Products Facts product code and image ID, the consent version, and the date, to handle removal requests and show the license.
- Hosting logs (Supabase / Cloudflare): include your IP address and are kept for up to 7 days. We never combine them with reports or photos.
- Support emails: kept only as long as needed to help you and keep basic records. You can ask us to delete them.
Your choices and rights
- Delete data on your device: in Settings, or by removing the app.
- Ingredient reports: turn off Settings → Help improve ingredient matching. Future reports stop immediately. Because reports carry no identifiers, we can't find or delete one person's past reports; they are deleted or aggregated within 90 days.
- Shared photos: withdraw any photo not yet published in Settings → Label photos, or turn off “Ask to share.”
- Emails: ask us to access or delete your messages.
Withdrawing consent does not undo a photo already published on Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, or Open Products Facts. To ask any of them to remove one, contact us and we will send the request to them.
State privacy rights (including Washington, Nevada, and Connecticut)
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- confirm whether we collect, share, or process your personal or consumer health data, and get a copy of it;
- get a list of the third parties we share it with;
- correct or delete it;
- withdraw consent you gave; and
- opt out of the sale of personal data, targeted advertising, or profiling (we don't do any of these).
Washington, Nevada, and Connecticut residents have specific rights over consumer health data, including access, deletion, and withdrawal of consent. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy explains these rights and how to appeal.
How to make a request: email support@alphagalwise.com. We respond within 45 days, and we won't treat you differently for using your rights. Because we keep little or no identifying data, we may not be able to link some data (like anonymous reports) to you. If so, we'll tell you.
Nevada: we do not sell covered information as defined by Nevada law.
Children's privacy
The app and website are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Reports and photo uploads are encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored in a private, access-restricted, encrypted store that only the publisher can review. No system is perfectly secure, so we collect as little as we can.
Region handling (EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
We are based in the United States, and data we receive is stored in the United States. When your device region is set to the European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland:
- Photo of ingredients is not available. The app does not capture, save, or send label photos, and no photo, text, or barcode is sent to us, Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, or Open Products Facts.
- Anonymous ingredient reporting is hidden, and no reports are sent.
- If your device region changes to one of these regions, the photo feature turns off and any photos waiting to upload are canceled and never sent. Label photos you already saved stay on your device, where you can only view or delete them (one at a time or all at once) in Settings → Label photos. They are not uploaded, edited, or shared.
Other app features work normally. Region is based on your device setting, which may not match where you are.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Each version has its own revision label and effective date, shown at the top. If we make a material change, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect, and we'll ask for your consent again where the law or this policy requires it (for example, before you keep using Photo of ingredients). We will not use data we already have in a materially new way without your consent.
